The problem of taxation is very simple— Washingtonians pay too much in taxes at the state and local levels. Citizens are burdened by rapidly increasing taxes from multiple sources with little or no accountability for where and how the tax dollars are being spent. This is unacceptable and creates an environment where large and small businesses either close shop or move elsewhere.
Stop Spending. Freeze spending in the state and expansion of any programs
Make it Permanent. As Governor I would strongly encourage the State legislature to pass a Constitutional Amendment to permanently ban the possibility of a State income tax. This would encourage growth and a business-friendly environment that would attract new businesses and family wage jobs.
Reevaluation. The entire tax code should be fully reviewed, and a clean tax system based upon simple rules should be implemented. Washingtonians shouldn’t be taxed into poverty and businesses—regardless of size—shouldn’t be forced out of business or to leave to lower tax, lower regulation states.
